Dr. Rob Levy: Physician, Businessman, Family Man
Rob, the Physician
Rob established the first primary care center in Port St. Lucie in 1983 in a small office on Hillmoor Drive. Family Care Associates was open seven days a week. Rob held evening hours, and even made house calls.
By the 1990’s, it had grown to a multi-site practice with 13 physicians and three allied health care professionals occupying a 23,000 square feet main facility and two 2500 square feet satellites. More importantly, more than 30,000 local residents called Family Care Associates their home for medical care.
Rob and his colleagues provided care to patients in the areas of internal medicine, family practice, pediatrics, cardiology and gastroenterology until 1997, when the practice became part of Martin Health Systems.
But he did not retire from medicine.
Instead, he signed on as a volunteer physician with Volunteers in Medicine (VIM), the clinic where residents of Martin County who do not have private health insurance and do not qualify for Medicaid or Medicare can receive comprehensive, compassionate care at no charge. Rob began volunteering in 2000, and he continues to see patients there today.
Rob also shares his medical skill at the Federal level. He is a member of one of the Federal Disaster Medical Assistance Teams organized by the U.S. Dept. of Health & Human Services’ National Disaster Medical System. Known colloquially as DMAT, these are highly qualified teams of 50 diverse medical professionals and paraprofessionals who stand ready to respond at a moment’s notice to the needs of a community following natural disasters like hurricanes and floods.
Since joining his designated DMAT (FL-5 ) Rob has been part of missions to help victims of Hurricane Sandy and Hurricane Maria, where he and his colleagues treated more than 1,000 patients in seven days.
Wherever he lends his medical talents, Rob brings with him a portfolio of impressive credentials, including:
- Duke University: Masters in Business Administration with a focus in Health Service Management
- American College of Healthcare Executives: Board Certified in Healthcare Management, also a Diplomate
- American College of Physician Executives: Certified Physician Executive
He received his Bachelor of Science from the University of Miami and his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Des Moines University.
Rob, the Businessman
In addition to building a highly successful medical practice, Rob has invested his time and talent into a number of endeavors.
He represented Liberty Tax, one of the nation’s largest tax preparation franchises, as an area developer and served as the CEO for an innovative medical products company based in Minneapolis, where he continues to be a member of the Board of Directors.
He also is an active real estate investor with interests in Florida, Colorado and Texas, and recently became a partner in a unique new venture, The Roasted Record. Located in downtown Stuart, it is the only business of its kind in Florida: a coffee shop that specializes in single-origin, specialty grade coffees roasted in small batches to the sounds of vinyl records playing.
